Dena E. Schafstall

Dena (Hoevener)Schafstall, 79, a lifelong resident of Columbus, IN passed away peacefully while asleep February 25, 2025, at Traditions of Columbus. Dena was born on March 8, 1945 to the late Henry and Doris (Otting) Hoevener. She married Robert Schafstall on July 25, 1965 and was the loving mother of Michael Schafstall and Shannon Alexander. Dena was baptized March 18, 1945 and confirmed on March 22, 1959. She graduated from Columbus High School and then obtained her beauty school degree. Mrs. Schafstall was a hairdresser for 58 years. It was an honor for her to serve on the Bartholomew County Fair Board for 18 years, just like her father did. She enjoyed making greeting cards, camping, horseback riding, shopping, playing cards, collecting both teddy bears and Longaberger baskets. Dena looked forward to having meals with loved ones. She treasured the opportunity to spend winters in Bonita Springs, FL later in life. Survivors include her son, Michael Schafstall (Andrew Alexander); daughter, Shannon (David) Alexander; grandchildren, Emma, Derek (Zoey) Alexander; siblings, Ruth Ann Newkirk and Steve Hoevener. Dena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Schafstall and her brother, Ronald Hoevener. The funeral service for Mrs. Schafstall will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church ~ Borchers with Pastor Steve Wood officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at church. Burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery ~ Borchers next to her husband, Robert. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or St. Paul Lutheran Church ~ Borchers in Seymour, IN.
