Nancy Van Epps Obituary

Nancy passed away peacefully on February 3 at Traditions of Deerfield surrounded by her family.

Born September 10, 1940 to Milicent and Edgar Ewell in Penn Yan, New York. Nancy was married to Larry Van Epps for almost 64 years (their anniversary is Feb. 10). Larry and Nancy have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.

At an early age, her father passed away from melanoma and soon her mother moved with Nancy and her brother Richard to Phoenix, Arizona, to be near family. After graduating from high school, she attended Phoenix Junior College.

In July, 1961, she returned to Penn Yan to be in her brother's wedding. While there, Nancy met Larry Van Epps. After a short courtship, she returned from Phoenix to Rochester, New York, to be near Larry. They were married on February 10, 1962.

In 1963, they moved to Victor, New York, where she became a housewife in helping to raise 3 children. In 1972, the family moved to Los Angeles as Larry was transferred by his employer, Xerox. Not enjoying LA, they relocated to Columbus, Indiana as Larry accepted a position with Arvin Automotive in 1974.

While in Columbus, Nancy enjoyed raising a family while volunteering at the hospital, playing golf and participating in a sewing group (stitch and bitch). She also worked as an office assistant for several small businesses. After the retirement of her husband, they moved to Stonecrest Villas, where she became very interested in quilting. She made many large quilts for family members. She became interested in making baby blankets for donation and sold a few. Late in life, she entered the memory care unit at Traditions in Loveland, Ohio, and started coloring with colored pencils. She became very proficient at coloring scenes.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Richard) and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by: her husband Larry of 64 years now residing at Traditions in Loveland, Ohio; son Ron Van Epps (Sandy), Northfield, IL., daughter Lisa Phillips (Michael), Mainville, Ohio, son Douglas Van Epps (Amanda) Louisville, KY. Survivors also include six grandchildren - Krista (Alex) Bloom, Glenview IL., Zachary Van Epps, Austin, TX., Taylor Van Epps (Abbey), Chicago, IL, Emma (Walker) Smith, Edinburg IN., Halle Henn (Alex), Boston MA., Hunter Henn (Jesus), Paraguay; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been made at Traditions in Loveland, Ohio, for services to be held on February 10 at 3 pm.
