Norma Shera Obituary

Norma Jean Shera, 95, of Westport, passed away at 4:42 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Columbus Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on November 30, 1924 in Decatur County, the daughter of Robert L. and Lillie Jewell (Pavy) Champ.

She has been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from Burney High School in 1943. She had worked at the Muscatatuck State School for 10 years. Norma Jean was a member of the Westport Baptist Church, Canasta Club for over 30 years and the Order of Eastern Star # 183 at North Vernon. She married Max C. Shera in Burney on January 19, 1946. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2010.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen J. Israel of Hope and Theresa Kay Shera of Westport; her grandchildren, Lisa K. Israel of Westport, Lori Israel Welsh of Hope and Matthew Clark Shera of Columbus; her great grandchildren, Christopher Glover of Westport, Max Alan Shera and Harper Jean Shera both of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max C. Shera; her adopted parents, Millard and Cora Keith; her sisters, Ethel Haas, Juanita Knouse, Ruby Nell Champ and Virginia Emma Rehrer; her brothers, Robert Lewis Champ, Jr., Harry A. Champ and Buddy Champ.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Paul May officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery. Family will receive visitors on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Baptist Church. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.bassgasper.com
