Sandra Kovach Obituary
Sandra L. "Sandy" Kovach was born in West Virgina on July 13th, 1962 to Howard D. and Shirley A. Welker. She passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Columbus Regional Hospital. At one year old her parents and her moved to Mooresville, IN where she spent her childhood. She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1980 where she was involved in the flag and rifle corp for the marching band. Additionally, she played basketball and played piano for her high school choir. She also enjoyed playing softball recreationally. After high school she attended Indiana University and then started her career in insurance at Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a claim's processor. When SIHO Insurance was created as a branch of Blue Cross and Blue Shield she moved to Columbus, IN to continue her career at SIHO. She retired from SIHO in 2024 with the title of Director of Benefit Configuration with 43 years of combined seniority from Blue Cross and Blue Shield and SIHO. After moving to Columbus, Sandy met her husband James F. (Jim) Kovach in 1987 and they married in 1991 and lived in Columbus throughout all their marriage. In 1998, Sandy and Jim welcomed their daughter Katelin M. Kovach to the world. Sandy was the best mother any daughter could ask for. She enjoyed hobbies like scrapbooking and card making and attended many craft events at Burney, Hilltop, and Stamp Away. She will be remembered for her amazing home-made Christmas cards, making the best deviled eggs anyone could eat, and her strong faith in God.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 34 years, James F. "Jim" Kovach and her daughter Katelin M. Kovach. Along with her brothers Robert D. (Tracy) Welker of Martinsville, IN and Kenneth H. "Kenny" (Christy) Welker of Mooresville, IN. Additionally, she is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her nieces Victoria Welker and Abigail Welker.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Boles officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:30 p.m. Thursday until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made Columbus Fireman's Cheer Fund in honor of Sandy.
She will be forever missed and honored by her surviving relatives.
