Steve Elmerick Obituary

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, we lost a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Steve Elmerick, affectionately known to his family as "Pops," grew up in a large, tight-knit family in Terre Haute, Indiana. He started helping his parents, Catherine and Oscar, at their small grocery store before his first day of school and went on to graduate from Indiana State University with a degree in Accounting.

Steve began working at Arthur Andersen in Indianapolis during the summer of 1963, where he was proudly told that he looked like a grocer because he always carried a pencil behind his ear. He became a proud father two years later with the birth of his daughter, Kelly, in 1965. On December 4, 1971, he married the love of his life, Linda. They had met earlier that year, in May, at Wasson's Department Store in Indianapolis, while he was purchasing a Mother's Day gift for his mom. Linda worked at the store and helped him select the perfect present.

Around this same time, Steve took a job in the Accounting Department of Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana. His first son, Derek, was born in 1975, followed by his second son, Mark, in 1976, shortly after the family transferred to Charleston, South Carolina. They spent the next ten years in Charleston making wonderful memories before returning to Columbus in 1986.

Steve went on to work at Cummins for 37 years before fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a pizza restaurant. At the age of 70, he opened the first Marco's Pizza in Columbus, Indiana (after telling his kids many times over the years that he wanted to start his own pizza place). He later opened a second Marco's Pizza on 25th Street in Columbus in 2014, before officially retiring in 2023.

Steve will be remembered as a loyal husband to Linda, his wife of nearly 54 years; a loving father to his children; and a kind-hearted grandfather to his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda; his three children, Kelly (Brian) Hosking, Derek (Virginia) Elmerick, and Mark (Grace) Elmerick; and his five beloved grandchildren, Ellen, Jason, Hudson, Mitchell, and Edward. We love you, Pops. You will always be in our hearts.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike: Reverend Howard Boles will officiate. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday. Steve will be laid to rest in Section 18 at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society.

Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the Elmerick family and a video tribute may be viewed at barkesweaverglick.com.
