Ruth-Ann (Kirby) Flynn, 83, of Wilton, CT, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, at The Greens at Cannondale, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Bedford, MA, and raised in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late George Arthur Kirby II and Ruth Sylvia Hartley. She earned a B.A. in Government from UMASS Amherst and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Ruth-Ann began her career at the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband-to-be, Charles P. Flynn. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this August. She later worked in New York before settling in Wilton in 1965.
She embarked on a 48-year career in education during a Connecticut teacher shortage and later earned a Master's in Education from Fairfield University. Known to generations as "Mrs. Flynn," she taught at Ridgebury and Scotland Elementary Schools in Ridgefield and remained active in several education associations. She also established a scholarship for Ridgefield High School students.
Ruth-Ann was active in the Wilton Garden Club and the Wilton Congregational Church. She loved skiing, kayaking, pickleball, and spending part of her summer vacations with family at Snows Pond in Massachusetts.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie; her sister, Meryden Kirby; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, George A. Kirby III.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Sherman Cemetery in Rochester, MA. A Celebration of Life will be held at Wilton Congregational Church on Saturday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m.
