Fred Hardtke Obituary

Fred C. Hardtke passed away on Monday, June 13 at the age of 84 years. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Fred C and Antonia B. Hardtke. His parents preceded in death as well as his two sisters., Clara Hardtke and Eleanore Lack and his brother-in-law, George Lock. Fred is survived by one niece, Mary Ellen Palm, her husband, Paul a grand-niec, Karen Syobota, her husband, Jason, and one grand -nephew, Erik Palm, his wife and two grand-grand nephews.
Fred married Marjorie D. Marshall on April 3, 2004, One very special time was when the two of them flew to London and spent seven days sight seeing before we took a train to Southampton to get on the Queen Elizabeth II ship (Cunard). On the ship, the couple toured Norway, Netherlands, Belgium and also had a tour scheduled for Germany but it had to be cancelled because of work on the dock . Fred taught Sunday School Bible Class for eight years at the Lutheran Missouri Synod. He was a Bible class leader for two years.
He received his BS degree at Illinois Institute of Technology and was in the upper 5 percent of his class standing. He got his PhD at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon and both degrees were in chemistry. Fred was an assistant chemist at Argonne in Argonne, Illinois, instructor at Oregon State University and was an assistant professor at UMR for 27 years. Fred had at least five or more publications and belonged to Sigma Fi Research Society, Phi Lambda Epsilon, Chemistry Honorary. Fred also organized Equality Bridge II for many years and he collected 68 Cadillacs. His hobby was trains.
Instead of a memorial service, visitation will be at 1314 Highland Dr. in Rolla on Sunday, June 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Rolla Manor Care Center, 1800 White Columns Dr., Rolla, Mo. 65401
