Patricia Game Obituary
BRYSON CITY - With sorrow we announce the death of Patricia "Pat" Wright Game after a valiant fight with heart failure and kidney disease. She died peacefully and we want to recognize the staff at Elizabeth House hospice and the care team at Advent hospital.
She was a Bryson City native, with a short detour to Gastonia and her final years were in the Asheville area with her beloved daughter and grandson. They were, without doubt, the joy of her life.
Growing up she was famous in the family for directing the Christmas Plays, pageants and numerous theatrical productions using the first portable microphones in her set. Broadway's loss was the Wright family gain.
She was a young mother, but with the help of her family, she graduated with a degree in education from Western Carolina. It was at this point that she moved to Gastonia to begin her career. She began her long teaching career with the first important lesson. Teaching the school board of Gastonia that women could and would be wearing slacks to work!
As soon as a position was available in Bryson City she moved back and began her career with the Swain County School system, specializing in elementary education first at Alarka Elementary then at Bryson City Elementary and finishing her career at West Elementary. Her theatrical childhood served her well as many of her students remember how entertaining her lessons were.
In addition to the challenges of being a working mom, she continued to support the Bryson City community. She was president of the Jr. Women's Club, the United Methodist Women, and the local chapter of NCAE. In addition to all this, she continued to be active in local Swain County politics.
As her daughter became more active in school activities Pat took on roles in the sports system. She made sure she could attend every one of Tracy's ballgames by volunteering to be the scorekeeper of both the basketball and volleyball teams.
During these busy years she also held the title of "hostess with the mostest". She began with her annual Christmas drop in and never stopped welcoming family and friends. We all remember many a weekend gathering at the little White House on Toot Hollow Road. She welcomed everyone with love, laughter and the best Bloody Mary to be had.
After retirement she moved in with her daughter and grandson and enjoyed watching them flourish. She was the "cool" grandmother taking Zeb and his friends to and from school every day and enjoying them thoroughly. Although she never got to travel to England (a lifelong dream) she did get to send Zeb off for a grand adventure to the British Isles.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lexie and Ray Wright of Bryson City. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy; grandson Zeb; siblings, Janis Wright of Bryson City, Toni (Don) Wright Davidson of Marietta and Dusty Wright of Bryson City. She will also be sorely missed by her nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held for the family at the Bryson City Cemetery Wednesday, Nov. 5. Services provided by Crisp Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local food bank or women's shelter.
