Col. Bealus Alonzo Smith Jr.

1933 - 2025

Colonel Bealus Alonzo Smith, Jr. (USAF Ret.), born October 27, 1933, died April 8, 2025, due to complications from living a long and full life.
He was born and raised in Stanfield, attended North Carolina State University on an ROTC scholarship and had a distinguished career as a pilot in the United States Air Force.
After serving his country he returned to Stanly County and became an integral part of the community. He was a member of the Lion's Club, served on the Board of Stanly County Community College, the Stanly County Agricultural Center, the Uwharrie Bank Board, and the Albemarle Airport Board.
He was very involved in local and state politics and was a strong supporter of the county Republican Party. He held numerous positions and was selected to the North Carolina Republican Hall of Fame.
B.A. lived his faith and was an active member and supporter of the First Baptist Church of Stanfield.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Phyllis; daughter, Charlotte and her husband Jim Voisinet; granddaughter, Christine and her husband Daulton Cockerell; and great-granddaughter, Margaux Cockerell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bealus Smith, Sr. and Della Tucker, and his son Russ.
His service, commitment, and dedication touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A service was officiated by Bruce League at the First Baptist Church of Stanfield on Friday, April 11 and he will receive a military burial at Arlington National Cemetary.
