Benton Rayford Howard, 90, of Locust, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Howard was born April 4, 1931 in North Carolina to the late Martin Lee Howard and the late Ara Ellen Howard.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Lou Eva Turner Howard; brothers, Grover, Lindsay, and J.B.; and sister, Zola Medlin.
Benton was a proud Korean War Veteran.
Bud enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, golf, visiting the mountains, camping and gardening.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. - 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Jesse Herring. The burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main St., Albemarle. Honors will be conducted by the NCNGHG.
Survivors include daughter, Teresa (Shorty) Hatley of Locust; sons, Benny (Tammy) Howard of Oakboro and Jeff (Connie) Howard of Norwood; sister, Rachel Collins of Concord; brother-in-law, Bill (Sylvia) Turner of Oakboro; grandson, Jimmy (Sherrie) Hatley; granddaughter, Amy (Scott) Honeycutt; grandson, Dustin (Lisa) Howard; granddaughter Candace (Wayne) Sutton; grandson, Robert Howard; granddaughter, Janna (Jamin) Brown; grandson, Derek (Hallie) Lambert; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special thank you to his caregiver, Julie Kiker.
