Calvin Sams Obituary
Calvin Sams, 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at his home in Albemarle after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Calvin was born to the late Willie Avra Sams and Madie Ethel Brewer Sams on September 27, 1957, in Montgomery County North Carolina.
Calvin was a walking miracle, surviving throat cancer and the horrible aftereffects that left him speech impaired. He never quit fighting.
Calvin was a true born-again Christian, loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading from the Bible and learning from the biblical teachings.
We will never know the people that he has touched from sharing his testimony to anyone interested.
Calvin worked several years as a Tool and Die Maker for various companies and then retired from work as an Applications and Sales Engineer for a large CAD/CAM company in 2019. He enjoyed the work and travel, but as his later years came along, he wanted to be more settled at home.
Calvin was a 1975 graduate of East Montgomery High School.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Weapons Technician with the 406th Tactical Fighter Wing, stationed in Zaragoza Spain.
Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Randolph Technical Institute (Randolph Community College) and Fayetteville Technical Institute (Fayetteville Community College), graduating both programs in the top of his classes.
Later in life Calvin graduated from Montgomery Community College with an Associate Degree in Gunsmithing in 2021, and operated his gun shop as his health would let him.
Married to Katrina, the love of his life, he leaves behind his son, Joshua Calvin Sams (Amelia), and two grandchildren, Cayson and Asher, sister Loretta Sams, adopted brother Tim Mauldin (Anne) and many cousins and friends.
Calvin kept a close tight circle of friends, but he knew people from many walks of life and made a positive impression on those he was around.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Prospect Baptist Church on Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests at 10 a.m., and following the service in the gymnasium after the service.
Calvin and the family were most grateful for the Hospice staff at Gentiva (formerly Community Home Care & Hospice) of Troy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva at 1024 Albemarle Road, Suite 904, Troy, NC 27371.
Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Sams family.
Calvin will be missed by many, but now rests in the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Until we meet again….
