Alan Jackson Obituary

CARBONDALE - Alan Roy Jackson, 56, entered into rest at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at home.

He married his loving wife and later outstanding caregiver, Jill Hubert Nov. 10, 1979, in Collinsville.

She survives in Carbondale. They have one son, Joshua Alan Jackson who survives in Springfield.

He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley (Clarence) Blackburn of Fayetteville, N.C., and Myra (William) Robinson of Breese; and two brothers, Dale Jackson of Los Angeles, Calif., and David Jackson of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

Alan was born Jan. 6, 1957, in Granite City, to Glen and Hilda Jackson of Madison. They preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a loving brother, Gary Lynn Jackson; a sister-in-law, Joanie Jackson (nee DeHart); nephew, William James Robinson Jr.; niece, Anita Morgan (nee Jackson) and niece, Treasa Robinson, also known as Sarah Stofferahn.

Alan spent most of his life in sales. He started Jackson Photo while in high school. Later he joined Dicor Photographic, then Carbondale Camera, and finally worked for Kmart Corporate overseeing their photo labs in over 20 states. He ended his sales career selling real estate with Century 21 in Carbondale. He also enjoyed working for Macy's during the holiday seasons. He won several trips and awards for his outstanding sales and customer service over the years.

Alan enjoyed volunteering in the concession stand for Carbondale Jr. Sports.

He was a 22-year member of Lakeland Baptist Church, and during his time there he served on the Day Care Board, assisted in the food pantry, served as an offering collector and worked on the counting committee.

Alan was most recently a member of Grand Avenue Church in Carbondale, where he assisted with collecting the offering and serving communion service until his health prohibited him from doing so.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, in Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Jon Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, funeral home.

Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Sorry to hear about Alan. Every time I hear a song by country/western musisan I'll think about him. I know his wife gave him the best care. I live about 50 miles South of Los Angeles,CA; where I know hes has "kin". May his survivors & friends & family accept my condolences & sympathies & may Alan "Rest In Peace". God Bless
