Annie Scott-Swigert Obituary

VALIER -- Annie Ruth Scott-Swigert, formerly of Zion and Valier, finally received her angel wings as she passed away surrounded by family and loved ones Wednesday Aug. 17, 2011, at the age of 74, in Nature Trails nursing facility.

Annie was born Jan. 6, 1937, the only child of the marriage between her parents, Louis Cantly Scott and Jasper Eugene Scott, both of Sumter, S.C.

At age 15, she moved to Amory, Miss., where she met and eventually married her first husband, Kenneth Edward Gilmore. From the union of nine years of marriage they had four children.

Annie Ruth Swigert later moved to Illinois where she met her second husband, Sanford Milton Swigert, and were soon wed in November 1961. From this marriage was born one child.

Annie will always be remembered as a hard working, strong woman, a waitress by trade, an avid gardener, a woman with a wonderful singing voice, an animal lover who loved her dogs, Lacey and Sara, a dear friend to those who knew her, a great wife, and a better mother than her five children could've ever asked for. She will be sorely missed by those who loved and knew her and will always be with us in our hearts.

Annie Ruth Swigert is survived by her husband, Sanford Milton Swigert of Valier; her four children, Glenn Scott Swigert of Valier, Katherine Ann (Micheal) Papamatheakis of Phoenix, Brenda Lee Hanlon of Valier and Kenneth Edward (Rita) Gilmore Jr. of Zion; her 13 grandchildren, Alex, Maria and Anna Papamatheakis, George Styden, Shannon Maillard, Nicole Lyle, Maria Hanlon-Redding, Rhiannon Larsen and Kenneth, John, Nicholas, Jacob Gilmore and Felecia Swigert; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Annie Ruth Swigert was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Edward Gilmore Sr., and baby girl Gilmore, who passed at birth.

Private interment will be Friday, Aug. 19, in Epworth United Methodist Church, 401 Main St., Mount Vernon, IL 62824.
