Dick Williams Obituary

DE SOTO - Dick Williams, 77, of Salem, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in Doctors Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salem.

Born Nov. 26, 1930, in Salem, he was the son of V.A. and Minnie Balliett Williams, who preceded him in death.

After five years with General Motors Corp., he was the owner and president of Dick Williams Chevrolet, Inc. He later was the developer of Westgate Commercial Subdivision. He spent four years with Hardcastle Accounting Firm in Salem. He was owner and an officer of Williams Realty Inc., Lakewood Inc., and Dickirson Oilfield Equipment companies. He served as director and interim executive vice-president of Salem National Bank and president of Marion County Local Development Corp.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salem and a 50-year member of the church choir. He was also a past president of Salem Rotary Club.

Before retirement, he worked as a consultant to auto dealers through the Management Performance Group in Atlanta, Ga. After retirement, he enjoyed meeting with his tax clients each year during tax season with the Salem Tax Service.

He married Jan Campbell on Nov. 20, 1960, in Salem, and she survives.

Also surviving is his sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Roberta Williams of De Soto and Mike Williams of Boston, Mass.; brother and sister-in-law, David A. and Mary Williams of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; sister, LaVerne Richmond of Sanora, Calif.; and grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Kay Williams.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grace United Methodist Church in Salem, with the Rev. Tom Collum officiating. A private burial will be in Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rankin Funeral Home in Salem.

Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church music department.
