Jeffie Crabtree Obituary

MURPHYSBORO -- Jeffie Michael Crabtree, 68, went peacefully in his sleep Saturday, April 21, 2012, at his residence in Murphysboro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, in Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory with military services conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605 and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Jeffie was born Jan. 6, 1944, in Jackson County to Curtis and Mary (Miller) Crabtree.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1969.

Mr. Crabtree was a retired maintenance foreman with Consolidated Coal Company. He was an excellent welder.

He was a member of VFW Chapter 7190 and Carbon Lake Club, both of Murphysboro.

Jeff was an avid fisherman and card player. He loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and friends.

He married Linda L. Crader on Dec. 28, 1963, in Carbondale, and she survives in Murphysboro.

Other survivors include two children, Gary (Chris) Crabtree and Julie Crabtree, both of Murphysboro; six grandchildren, Samantha Grammer, Jessa (Steven) Crabtree, Kaylee Crabtree, Jared (Stephanie) Glodo, Dylan (Alisha) Glodo and Brock Wiedman, all of Murphysboro; five great-grandchildren, Jacie Crabtree, Loryanna Glodo, Alexa Crabtree, Makenzie Crabtree and Braydan Reames, all of Murphysboro; five brothers, Don Crabtree of San Benito, Texas, Doyle Crabtree of Hallidayboro, Dean (Cheryl) Crabtree of Elkville, Jessie (Doraine) Crabtree and John Crabtree of Gorham; three sisters, Lela (Dale) Caswell of Murphysboro, Hazel (Bill) Johnson of San Benito, Texas, and Margie Braden of Carterville; his mother-in-law, Mary Crader of Carbondale; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Dean) Bush of Carbondale; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Alvin and Doris Boyer of Murphysboro; and many other friends too numerous to count.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister.

Jeff will be greatly missed by his wife, family and the many people that he touched during his lifetime.
