HERRIN - Joseph Dean "Joe" Deskines, 90, of Herrin, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at the V.A. Hospital CLC in Marion.
Joe was an agent for Ozark Airlines for 33 years in Marion, and also in Brownsville, Texas, Houston, Texas, and Little Rock, Arkansas.
Joe was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 1953 through July 1956.
Joe was born May 14, 1935, in Emporia, Kansas to Harden and Ella Lois (McMillan) Deskines.
Joe married Alma Jean Chandler on Jan. 10, 2004, in Bullhead City, Arizona. She preceded him in death on June 4, 2022.
He is survived by his son, Ronald Deskines of Millstadt; daughter, Patti Jo Deskines of Freeman Spur; two grandchildren, Adam Deskines of Millstadt and Christina Wallis of Junction City, Kansas; three great grandchildren, Gavin Parker, Ashlynn Shea and Eli Wallis; two sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia and Joe Maier of Hermiston, Oregon, and Donella Ward of Springfield, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Lloyd Allen Deskines; and sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Junior Baker.
Memorial graveside services with military rites performed by Herrin American Legion Post 645, Baker-Ladd VFW Post 1567, Carterville American Legion Post 347 and U.S. Marine Corps Honors Detail, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin, with Rev. Don Colson officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Doughboy Plaque Fund, c/o Teresa Camarato, 201 N. Park Ave., Herrin, IL 62948; envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
