Larry Norman Obituary

HERRIN -- Larry B. Norman, 70, went to join his heavenly Father, parents and sister at 4:28 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in Herrin Hos-pital.

Larry was born Sept. 29, 1940, in Harrisburg to Leslie Freeman and Sybol (Bryan) Norman. He married Carolyn K. Stanley in June 1960 in Franklin County. She preceded him in death. He married Frances Gene (Triplett) Wolf in January 1998 in Marion. She survives in Herrin.

He spent three years working for Blunt Brothers Construction while building Marion Federal Prison. Once completed, he began a 30-year career with Marion Federal Prison that began as a correctional officer and ended with his retirement in 1994 as carpentry foreman.

Larry was an active member of Community Chapel in Marion. He gave his heart and soul to Jesus Christ. He enjoyed spending time outside feeding the various wildlife and critters that frequented his property. Family, fishing, farming and carpentry are what made Larry who he was. He liked fishing at various spots, especially his daughter's pond, and when it came to farming, he liked tractors. He had mostly Farmall, but still had a Case and an AC Tractor too. He was quite the craftsman and could do anything with wood from framing a house to building beautiful cabinet and furniture work. As much as he loved those things, what mattered most was his family and church family. He thanked God every day for them and prayed continually for their safety. He was a compassionate man who was not afraid to pass on a kind word, gesture, hug or kiss.

Survivors include his wife, Frances G. Norman of Herrin; daughter, Lara D. Jennings and husband, Don, of Carterville; son, Blake Norman and wife, Robin, of Marion; son, Clint Norman and fiancée, Angie Bird, of Herrin; stepdaughter, Carla Greenwood and husband, Jack, of Las Vegas; stepdaughter, Geri Ellis and husband, Scott, of Carbondale; stepson, Erik Wolf and wife, Becky, of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Breann Killman, Taylor Norman, Jack Greenwood III, Jerry Greenwood, Jennifer Curran, Tony, Erika and Carly Wolf, Heather Ellis, Darbi Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Allison Greenwood, Tim Curran, Holly Greenwood, Ezekiel Wolf; sister, Delores "Dee" Clayton-Hall and husband, David, of Philadelphia, Miss.; brother-in-law, Sherriff Bennie Vick of Johnston City; mother-in-law, Wilma Sekardi of Herrin; father-in-law, Bob Triplett and wife, Juanita, of Herrin; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and sister, Ricki Vick.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at the funeral home.
