GORHAM - Michael Eugene Easterly, 73 of Gorham passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, in Herrin Hospital.
He was born Aug. 29, 1950, in Gorham to Gilbert L. and Dorothy Dean Easterly.
Michael and Jeannie Earline Riggs were married Jan. 15, 1973. She preceded him in death July 13, 2002.
He worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the VFW post 7190 Men's Auxiliary and American Legion Post 127 in Murphysboro. Michael was an avid gardener and always loved sharing what he had grown with his fellow post members and friends.
He is survived by his life partner, Robin Cherim of Marion; three children, Jennifer Williams of Mt. Vernon, Michael E. Easterly Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida and Aaron Easterly of Carbondale; grandchildren, Seth Noble Brown, Elizabeth Danielle Easterly, Olivia Williams and Madyson Wilver; brothers, Allen Dean of Marion and Raoul Schlindwein of Metz, France; sister, Sharon Jennings of Murphysboro.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at Crain Funeral Home-Murphysboro. Graveside service will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Walker Hill Cemetery with Bob Jennings officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations in memory of Michael to be directed to the Murphysboro Food Pantry, 906 N. 14th St., Murphysboro, IL 62966.
