Nicholas Martin Obituary
Nick was born Sept. 14, 1994, in Clayton, Mo. He was a junior at Carbondale Community High School and participated in the speech team and Scholar Bowl.
His friends were very dear to him. He was loved for his compassion, light-heartedness, sense of humor and unique perspective of the world.
Nick enjoyed music, movies, cooking, hiking and running, camping, reading and Tae Kwon Do. He loved to explore new places, and he loved his dogs, Charlie, Linus and Annabelle.
He will be profoundly missed by friends and family. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all of Nick's wonderful teachers, both at Unity Point School and Carbondale Community High School.
The family thanks everyone who has already sent condolences.
Nick is survived by his father, Dr. Kurt Martin and Lori Martin of Carbondale; mother, Beth Savage and Rhett Ruecker of Seattle; brother and sister, Brandon Flamm and Natalie Martin, both of Carbondale; and loving grandparents, Ed and Trudy Eads, Earl and Trudy Savage, Roman and Nancy Martin, Joanne Martin and Ron and Bonnie Ruecker.
Private services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, with Bill Sasso officiating. A public reception will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Unitarian Fellowship, 105 N. Parrish Lane, in Carbondale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to LifeSavers Training Corp. Cards may be sent to Dr. Kurt and Lori Martin, 897 Green Ridge Road, Carbondale, IL 62903; or Beth Savage and Rhett Ruecker, 416 19th Avenue East, Seattle, WA 98112.
Walker Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

I didn't know Nicholas but my son was in science class with him fresh, soph, and junr years @ the high school. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I work @ the hospital in peds and I do see you from time to time. I can only say that I am deeply affected by this and hope that your family will find a way to get thru this. Beth, Rhett and all of Nick's family – I am so sorry to hear about Nick. I was privileged to have met him on his visits to Seattle and I especially enjoyed his teenage delight in teasing his mom.
