Roger Holmes Obituary
He retired as a pastor from Southern Illinois and was a member of Second Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio.
The Rev. Roger Holmes was a graduate of Langston University and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Rosezella Golden Jr.
Left to mourn are his loving wife, Brenda Holmes; son, Richard (Tameka) Holmes; daughters, Catherine Shaw and Tammy Holmes; brother, Michael (Gwen) Carter; brothers-in-law, Edgar (Muriel) Henderson Jr. and Michael Henderson; grandchildren, Julian Shaw and Timothy and Rachael Holmes; and other relatives and friends.
The home-going service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in Second Baptist Church, 186 N. 17th, Columbus, Ohio, with the Rev. Howard T. Washington officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in Kingwood Memorial Park.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gary Memorial Chapel.

Hello Sister Brenda, I pray your strength in the Lord as you carry on the ministry God has blessed you to share with your wonderful husband. We are so grateful to know he lived and worked for his Lord and Savior till he was called home. We also take great comfort and joy and knowing this. Know we all must continue the work till our call comes. Know you have a sister praying for you and Carbondale is always a home away from home for you

I am so sorry to hear of Roger's passing.
I started school with him in Kindergarten in Albany Oregon -- we went all through school together, graduating from Albany Union High School in 1965.

Brenda. My prayers go out to you and your entire family in the passing of Rev. Holmes. I will always remember his sermons when he'd come to preach at Rock Hill and the times I attended special days at Pauls Chapel. He was such a good man who truely loved the Lord. I remember him most for his kind and caring spirit, his sermons, which I dearly loved hearing him preach and his love to all people. I have missed you both since you left southern Illinois. Know that I care and encourage you to hold on and trust God to comfort you at this time. Remember these words from the song writer. "God is the joy and the strength of my life, He moves all pain misery and strife. He promise to keep me never to leave me, never fall short of his word. God is my all and all". In love and Sympathy.

Brenda, Tammy and Holmes Family, be assured that your sorrow is shared. Rev. Holmes meant a lot to many and will be sorely missed by many. He left a rich legacy throughout southern Illinois through his work with the Mount Olive District Association and his pastoral leadership at Paul's Chapel Baptist Church in Marion.
