William Hanagan Obituary

MOUNT VERNON - William "Bill" D. Hanagan, 78, died at 4:26 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, in St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Benton to Michael J. and Esther (Zimmer) Hanagan.

William first married Mary Jane Welch. She preceded him in death Dec. 13, 1984. Bill later married Patricia Turnage Gardner on Dec. 27, 1986, in Mount Vernon, and she survives.

He was a founding partner of Hanagan and Dousman Attorneys.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, in St. Mary's Church in Mount Vernon, with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hanagan of Mount Vernon; four sons, Christopher B. Hanagan of Key West, Fla., William D. Hanagan Jr. and wife, Mary Ann, of Newark, Del., and Michael J. Hanagan and wife, Randi, and Steven F. Hanagan and wife, Barbara "Cissy," all of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Patricia Hanagan of Portland, Ore., and Mary Kathleen Hanagan of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Betty Klein and husband, Howard, of Saskatoon, Canada, and Kyran Hanagan of Benton; one stepson, Martin Gardner and wife, Joan, of Kennewick, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Deborah Morgan and husband, John, of Marion; two grandchildren, Ryan Hanagan and Kayla Hanagan, both of Mount Vernon; seven stepgrandchildren, Daniel Ebetts, Melissa Mather, Jennifer Dionne, Kara, Holly and Gabe Gardner and Jordon Hattery; six great- stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane, and his sister, Dorothy Hanagan.

Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a third degree Knights of Columbus, Monsignor James P. Burke Council 2964, and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 1935. He was also a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Jefferson County Bar Association and Celtic Bag Pipers of Southern Illinois

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church Building Fund or Barnes Hospital Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis. Memorials will be accepted at the church or the funeral home.
