Bart Gressmen Obituary

Barton J. Gressmen

Hurricane

Barton J. Gressmen, son of Orvil Gressmen and Utahna Belle Peterson passed away April 17, 2017 at the age of 84. He was born in his grandparents home in Goshen, Utah. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints having had many callings, including bishop and stake high council. Bart will be remembered by all who knew him for his wonderful smile, sense of humor, and quiet demeanor.

Bart was in USAF, having spent 3 1/2 years in Germany during the Korean War. Later he was a member of the SLC Fire Department for 29 years and 15 years as a Granite School District bus driver for special needs kids at Hartvigson. He loved those kids so much he didn't retire until health forced him to at age 69.

Bart and Neva married in 1999. At his death, their home had been in Hurricane for over 10 years fulfilling his dream to live in southwest Utah. He was formerly married to Bonnie Gressmen and they had four children: Scott Gressmen, Bret Gressmen, Debbie Hinckley, and Tracy (Denise) Gressmen, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bart is survived by his wife Neva, brother Larry Gressmen and special sister-in-law Marcie, as well as many friends. Also surviving are three wonderful step-children: Jim (Michelle) Hill, Trish (John) Harris, and Lee (Karen) Hill, and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sons Scott Gressmen and Bret Gressmen.

A viewing will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 from 11:00am-12:30pm at the LDS Chapel located at 402 N. 2600 W. Hurricane, Utah. Interment will be a private family service at Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.

Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary. Condolences may be shared at mcmillanmortuary.com

In lieu of flowers, it is Bart's request that donations be made to Intermountain Foundation at Dixie Regional Medical Center or a charity of your choice.

Bart was one of our dearest friends. He had a wonderful loving heart. I aways respected his love of Jesus Christ and his desire to live the Gospel. No doubt he is very content in Heaven with his friends and family. He loved Neva very much. She was truly the love of his life. How fortunate they were to find love later in life like ourselves! Tom and I shared that great blessing too. It won't seem right to go to their home in Hurricane and not get one of Bart's wonderful hugs. He always made us feel welcome. That said, I'm grateful he won't have to suffer anymore. See you on the other side, Bart. Love, Tom and Cheryl Quinn

I am sorry to hear of Bart's passing. I had the great pleasure of working with him on the Salt Lake City Fire Department in my early career. He was a gentleman, always. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

"FINAL ALARM"
Rest now my brother firefighter
Lay soft your suffering back
Rest well and forever
Your memory shall not lack
Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
Rest with St. Florian
Your spirit now endowed
Rest here your heart
We know you gave your all
Rest easy, you've done your part
and now you've answered your last call
As we ring the final bell.
