I had the honor to be in many of Bessie's journalism classes from 1968-72 at the College of Southern Utah (now Southern Utah University). Bessie was much more than a college teacher. She was a true friend who cared for me and her students. Bessie was patient when I made mistakes in writing. She was always available before and after classes. One afternoon Bessie came on the college radio station where I interviewed her. As I stumbled over my questions, Bessie saved the day as the interview ended. Upon returning to Cedar City in the future years ( for Homecoming), she always remembered my name immediately. We enjoyed talking about the days I was a freshman at CSU!! Thank you so much Bessie for being more than a friend. You treated me like family as you did with all your students.

I met Bessie in the fall of 1986 when our company, "Cedar Products", was closed. We were given financial help to go back to school. Bessie was one of the first people I met when I went back to college. She was so amazing. The first thing she did was get to know me as a person, and after that helped me navigate my classes and campus. But, more importantly, she cared about me and was genuine in her relationship with me. She made me believe I could achieve and succeed in college, even though I was a non-traditional student. Her office was always open and she was never to busy to offer friendly help to students. She is one of my heroes and I will never forget her loving service. Please accept my sympathy.

Rhonda, I read of your mother's passing and wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. I know your mom did so much for the community of Cedar City and for people individually. I haven't seen you for -- dare I say -- 50 years, since you and I worked together for Jack Cannon at the SUU Financial Aid Office, but I have always remembered your kind, sincere, and helpful personality. May you be comforted at this time by all the wonderful memories you have of your mom. Carol Black

For many years we lived in the same neighborhood on 900 West. She was so loved and will be missed. Our love and prayers to Kent the family.

So grateful for this beautiful lady and for the opportunity I had to work with her while I was attending SUU as a freshman many, many years ago. She truly cared about all of her students and always had time for each and everyone.
