David Henson Obituary

David Lee Henson

Santa Clara

David Lee Henson, 57, of Santa Clara, Utah, passed away heroically Monday, March 4, 2013 from injuries sustained in an auto/pedestrian accident. Dave was doing what he loved at the time of his passing, walking with his sweet wife Leslee. He was born September 29, 1955 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Charles and Patty Henson. He married his high school sweetheart, Leslee Bird on May 16, 1975 in the Manti temple. They had 3 children: Haley (Aaron) Warner of Santa Clara, Utah, Blake (Kass) Henson of Provo, Utah, and Lindsey (Tyson) Mackay of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dave grew up in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams and was named All-State in football. He worked for Provo City for over 30 years and retired to a life of golfing, running, biking, friends & grandchildren.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in many callings. Among his favorites were serving as a member of the bishopric in the Mapleton 14th Ward and most recently as a primary teacher. Dave loved golfing with his son and brothers, biking with his friends, and running with his daughters and wife. He ran the Boston Marathon and was a regular in the St. George Marathon and many other local races. He competed in several triathlons, and recently finished the LOTOJA bike race.

Dave loved being surrounded by family & friends. Four wheeler rides, bonfires and sleepovers were regular activities at "Grandpa Dave's" house. His warm, kind-hearted, and friendly nature helped him develop many lifelong relationships. He was genuinely interested in everyone he met and treated each person with love and respect, (if he wasn't playing a practical joke on them!) Dave was very patient, funny, and a tender-hearted man who always made others feel comfortable and loved.

Dave is survived by his wife Leslee and three children, 10 grandchildren (with 2 on the way), his parents, in-laws Stan and Colleen Thatcher, siblings Steve Henson, Brian (Brenda) Henson, Mark (Tina) Henson, Lori Henson, Scott (Dede) Henson, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Mapleton Stake Center, 970 North 400 East, Mapleton, Utah. Friends may call at the church Thursday evening from 6 until 8 and Friday from 9:30-10:30 prior to services. Interment, Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected].

I am so sorry hearing about this tragic event. I knew David growing up and was a good friend of his brother Steve. This happened to my favorite sister in 1968, I have never recovered, I can relate to your pain. How unfair..

I never met David. I met the man that unfortunately was part of a chain reaction that ended his temporal life. Like the resurrection, I met his legacy. His wife, Leslee, gracious and forgiving, his daughters -all lovely, kind and also gracious. The impact of his relationship with his wife, his efforts as a father and as a Priesthood member, leaves us all humbled by his example. I brought a gift of concern and compassion and left overwhelmed by receiving a gift of true compassion for others while they themselves are in deep grief, for certain. Rest well, David. The work of your earthly life is already counted as more than enough. By their fruit you shall know them. The Lord knows you. Chaplain David Nutter, SGPD

Great man, great family, eternal memories. Dave always had a kind word, or a good humored jab and a never-ending smile. Heavenly Father took one of the best among us home. Thanks for never saying no and teaching me how to better serve others. Our love and prayers to the Henson family.

So many fond memories of Dave and Leslee from my childhood in Provo. Whenever they came to visit our family, it was if sunshine itself had visited our home. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May God's love give you strength.
