Donald Kugath Obituary

Donald Arthur Kugath

St. George

Donald Arthur Kugath, 76, died June 23, 2013 in St. George, Utah after a brief illness. Donald was born February 2, 1937 to Arthur Charles and Elizabeth Augat Kugath in West Allis, Wisconsin. He was raised with his older sister, Millie, in West Allis and enjoyed fishing, playing basketball, and track. He graduated from BYU and later attended graduate school at Cal Tech and Purdue, receiving a PhD in mechanical engineering.

He married Judith Hunt on April 13, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. He worked for many years as an engineer for General Electric, living with his family for seven years in Schenectady, New York and in Malvern, Pennsylvania for twenty years. Don also worked as a consultant for Daw Technologies in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the church in many callings, including as a bishop of the Glennville, New York ward and as a long-time Sunday school teacher. He was a scholar of the scriptures and loved to share his knowledge. He loved the temple and served in the St. George temple's baptistry for nine years. He loved his family, the gospel, his dog and his garden. He is loved and will be missed.

Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy, and children Suzanne (Scott) Grimshaw, Elisabeth, Steven (Serena), Rebecca (Chris) Juchau, Pamela (Dan) Chudleigh, and Amy; as well as twenty-two grandchildren and one great grand-child.

Funeral services will be held at noon on June 29, 2013 at the Snow Canyon Stake Center located on 1184 N. Dixie Downs Rd, St. George, Utah. The funeral will be preceded by a viewing from 10:30 to 11:45 at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS general missionary fund.

I just heard about Don's death. We remember so well our times together in the Valley Forge ward!! And how great a conversation tool "the bathroom" was. Love and best wishes to you all.

Dear Judy & Family,
Although we had a relatively short time to get to know Don, what a wonder legacy he has left for his family. We send our love and support to all of you.

Dear Kugath family. A fond remembrance of you is when we - The Barneys - were moving out in 1969 and Don was preparing breakfast omelets for all of us!! The filling was sour cream with green onion and ham! So delicious! I kept that menu item and use it often. I am still a widow but surrounded by family here in Farmington, Utah. Love to you all , Pauline

I met Mr. Kugath only twice, but have had the opportunity to work with his son, Steve, for the past 12 years. If the phrase. "Like father, like son" is correct then Mr. Kugath was a great person.
