Evan Cramer Obituary

Evan Rawle Cramer, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away on August 24, 2016. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on August 27, 1926, to Walter Peter Cramer and Amy Elizabeth Rawle Cramer.

Evan grew up in the town of Ucon, Idaho. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Navy during WWII and was stationed in San Diego, CA. There he met the love of his life, Mavis Kemp. They married on November 30, 1945 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. They were married for over 70 years.

Evan received his Bachelor's Degree in Social Science and Education from Brigham Young University. He later received his Master's Degree in Elementary School Administration. He and Mavis returned to El Cajon, California, where he was employed for 25 years as a teacher and elementary school principal. They moved to Roosevelt, Utah in 1982 where he worked for Duchesne County School District as teacher and principal as well. After retiring in 1992, they settled in St. George.

Evan enjoyed building things, painting, sculpting, reading, and writing stories and poetry. He had a deep and profound understanding of the scriptures and devoted his life to studying the Gospel. He had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing. He loved his family and provided loving counsel and advice in a personal way to his entire posterity. He was a true patriarch in every sense of the word.

Evan was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a deep and abiding love for and testimony of his Savior. He served valiantly in many callings including Bishop of the El Cajon California 1st Ward, San Diego East Stake, and Patriarch in the San Diego East Stake, the St. George Utah YSA Stake and the St. George Utah Snow Canyon Stake. He and his wife Mavis served a mission in the St. George Historic Sites Mission.

Evan is survived by children: Fern Timothy; Sharon (Doug) Stephenson; Neal (Janet) Cramer; Marsha (Brent) Fieldsted; Brett (Sandee) Cramer. Brothers: Richard (Beverly) Cramer, Stephen (Jeniel) Cramer, Lewis Cramer, and Irving (Kathleen) Cramer; Sisters: Irene Simkins and Anita (Garold) Campbell; 30 Grandchildren, 93 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mavis Kemp Cramer; parents, Walter and Amy Cramer; daughter, Katherine Barwick; grandson, Stephen Barwick; great-granddaughters BayLee Parks and Emily Heckathorn; great-grandson Bradley Herman; four sisters, Glenna Oswald, Sharon Todd, Alice Rea Bloxham and Kathleen Margaret Cramer; two brothers, Stanley Cramer and Norman Cramer.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 1610 North Dixie Downs Rd., St. George, UT. Viewings will be held on Friday, September 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, and on Saturday at the Chapel from 9:30 to 10:30, prior to services. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery with full Military Honors.

To the Cramer Family:
I didn't know about your loss of both your parents
It is hard to deal with this. I loss both my mom and dad-dad in 99- and mom 2002. Brenda and Donna both passed away 2 months of each other in 2014. When you are feeling up to it give me a phone call.
My children are all over Debbie is in SLC-Donovan in Texas- Nicki is Sanaquine Utah-and Brian is Ballard Ut out of Roosevelt. We live in Roosevelt Utah too.
