Glenn Gunter Obituary

Glenn Leslie Gunter, Jr

Saint George, UT

Glenn died at home surrounded by family on September 4, 2015 at age 76, as a result from a long-term illness. Born in Redding, California and the son of the late Glenn Leslie Gunter Sr. and Gertrude Ladd Gunter. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 56 years, Rosemary; sister, Patricia; son Glenn and daughter, Lorna Anderson; 7 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Glenn is remembered for many accomplishments and unshakeable faith in God. He worked in the aerospace industry as tool design engineer on diverse missile systems and the B-2 stealth bomber. An award-winning pistol marksman, he served in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Dept. and earned recognition for once apprehending Folsom Prison escapees. He especially enjoyed the mounted patrol, riding his horse called Willie. In real estate, he developed El Dorado Hills in Leeds, Utah.

In 1960's he played first trumpet in big bands and the Shriner's. Glenn wore out many a pair of cowboy boots keeping a wife and her horse barn for over 50 years and opening St. George's Red Ridge Ranch in 1999. He had an innate connection with animals, training his American Eskimo dogs so well that a comical in-house performance was always at the ready. He put a lot of miles on his meticulously maintained sports cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles.

As a young father he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and set an strong example of faith that his family continues to follow. A deep knowledge of the scriptures inspired him with a love and passion for missionary work as well as to quietly give support to those who were struggling or in need.

He was also known for his quick wit, even until the end. "I TOLD you I was sick!," was his requested epitaph.

A memorial service will be held at the Sage Hollow LDS Chapel on 2100 East 2450 South, St. George, Utah on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 1 p.m.We thank all the ward family and dear friends who supported him and his loved ones throughout the past years of his declining health.

What an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather & friend. Can't imagine this Earth without him here. He was such a great missionary and always happy even in his darkest hours.... he had a smile on his face. We love this family and they will always be in our prayers....

It was always fun to see you at the Hilton when you would come in. You always had a friendly hello and smile for me.
It was a pleasure coming to your house and trimming your nails.
Rest in peace my friend.
