James Andreasen Obituary

James Andreasen

Ivins - Jim returned to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, February 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born in Gooding, Idaho on February 8, 1941. He was the oldest of four children. His family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah during his school years. In his teens he joined the Utah National Guard and after graduation from Olympus High School in 1959, joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Brandywine, Maryland (outside of Washington, D.C.) at a Nike Radar Site where he helped protect and secure our Nation's Capital area.

It was in Washington, D.C. that Jim met his eternal love, Barbara Jean Kappel at a Mutual activity in the Old Capitol Ward in June 1960. They were married on 27 October 1961 and sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on 9 June, 1962.

Jim pursued his life-long desire to attend college graduating from Brigham Young University with his B.S. and M.S. degrees, then Oregon State for his PhD in Zoology. After graduation Jim taught at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks then spent the rest of his professional career with the Federal Government working with the Federal Power Commission, The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Environmental Protection Agency. In 2003 Jim officially retired from Government service and he and Barbara served a full-time mission in Sydney, Australia for 18 months. Upon their return to the U.S. they settled in Ivins, Utah.

Jim has always had a strong and deep conviction of the divinity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. His family is grateful for the knowledge they have that through the Atonement of Christ they will all be together again. Families are Forever! Jim held many Ward and Stake leadership callings and served as an ordinance worker in the Washington, D.C. and St. George Temples, and many years as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons Randy (Bonnie) Apple Valley, UT; Grant (Brenda) Las Vegas, NV; Richard (Lisa) Queen Creek, AZ; Amy (Richard) Stephens Las Vegas, NV; and Emily Dixon Las Vegas, NV. Brothers Alan and Dale Andreasen, Sister Sandra Clementsen. He was preceded in death by his parents Randall and Mildred Sauer Andreasen.

A viewing will be held at the Ivins Heritage LDS Chapel at 290 E. 1060 S., Ivins, UT on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Monday, February 12, 2018 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the funeral a viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

A special appreciation to Luke, Andie and Angela from Alpha Home Care and Hospice; thank you for your tender and thoughtful service. Compassionate service and luncheon provided by the Ivins 8th Ward and Verteran's Home Branch Relief Societies.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that any desired donations be made to the Southern Utah Veterans Home, 160 N. 200 E., Ivins UT 84738.

Barbara,

Dennis and I send our condolences on Jim's passing. We just saw his obituary today. This afternoon I ran across your Christmas letter of 1983 or 84, and was prompted to google Jim. We fondly remember our time together at BYU. Dennis remembers going with Jim to Green River to shock fish for a study he was doing. Jim was in the boat... Dennis was in the water. Dennis slipped on a rock and fell into the water, which filled his chest waders and carried him downstream. Jim to the rescue! I remember the example you were. In Relief Society one day we were discussing homemaking, but your comment targeted marriage and has stuck with me these 45+ years. You said that when you ironed, you always did Jim's clothes first. A small thing...but mostly not small at all. It speaks volumes. That is the kind of thing that strengthens (and sweetens) a marriage. Our love to your family, Dennis & Judy Evans, Taylor, AZ.

Dear Barbara and Family,
I am serving a mission in Cleveland OH and just occassionally read obituaries from the home Spectrum. To my surprise I found out about Jim. I was so sad and recognize that you have most likely had some times of hard things. I so send my love and sympathy. I wish we could have spent more time with each other in the past because I have nothing but great memories of the Andreasons. We shared a sweet time of our lives together in the old Wyview Village. May you find peace and comfort and I will get in touch when I return home this summer. I loved the one dinner we had at Olive Garden a few years ago. May Heavenly Father bless you in the coming days. Love, Sister Marie Rice
