Robin Haight Obituary

Robin Drew Haight

Cedar City - Robin Drew Haight, age 65, passed away on April 16, 2018 in Cedar City, Utah. Robin was born on September 16, 1952 in Salina, Utah, to Leonard Drew and Mary Belle Ivie Haight. He was the oldest of four children. He married his eternal sweetheart Brenda Gubler on May 7, 1976 in the St. George LDS Temple.

At a young age, Robin learned a strong sense of responsibility in his family. He spoke fondly of his childhood and had many great memories in the Cedar Valley helping on his Grandparent's farm. He was an Eagle Scout. He found a passion for athletics playing baseball, football and basketball. He was an All-State athlete in football and basketball and graduated from Cedar High School in 1972 having served as the Student Body President. He earned full-ride basketball and leadership scholarships to Southern Utah State College and also served as the Student Body President there.

Robin served a 2-year LDS mission to Auckland, New Zealand. He spoke highly of his experiences serving the Lord and served in many leadership capacities including Zone Leader and Assistant to the President.

After graduating from SUSC in 1977, Robin and Brenda moved to Seattle, Washington where Robin attended the University of Washington Dental School; earning his doctorate degree in Dentistry in 1981. They returned to Cedar City with their small family where he practiced dentistry for 37 years.

Robin was blessed through his service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings including a Bishopric, the High Council, Scouting, and teaching in various capacities. Since he lost his father when he was 8-years-old, he did all he could with his family, teaching them skills and making memories. He served in many capacities in the Boy Scout Program promoting meaningful activities and life experiences. He often recounted stories of scouting adventures that he shared with many youth and leaders.

His hobbies included dutch-oven cooking, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He had a strong loyalty to Cedar City and used his cooking and organizational skills in many community events over the years.

He had a big heart, a brilliant mind and a contagious laugh. He lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by many.

Robin is survived by his wife Brenda; sons Bryan (Heather) Haight, Michael (Tausha) Haight; daughters Tamara (Mike) Twitchell, and Jennifer (Doug) Kerksiek along with 15 grandchildren; brother David (Nancy) Haight; brother-in-law Richard Thomas and sister Joann Bergera.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Kathryn Haight Thomas and brother-in-law Gregg Bergera.

Ann and I are on a mission in Hawaii and Just learned of Dr. Haight's passing. We are so sorry for your loss and send our prayers for your comfort. The last thing that Robin did for me as I was getting my mission exam was to share with me some of his thoughts (6 binders full). They helped me as I have shared them with my students at BYU Hawaii.

Dr. Haight was my dentist for over 30 years and he will be missed! My children called him the gentle giant. I was impressed by how he could keep them calm when they were little and just "sneak" a tooth out. He always had a joke or two to share and always asked how my family was doing. He was very thoughtful. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am so sorry to hear of Robin's passing. I know that most of us who went to high school with Robin thought of him as a friend. It was in high school that I got to know Robin better, and as I thought back on those days one of the things that I remenber is how he always treated his sister during those days.
I will always remember his integrity and compassion for others.
Classmate Steve Edwards.

Robin was my Home Teacher and more importantly my friend. I enjoyed many experiences with him hunting and fishing and just learning from him. He was a big man with a big heart and was an important part of my life when I needed his guidance and support. He lived a good life, has a great family. My thoughts and prayers are with Brenda and the Haight family during this time of loss.

Dr. Haight was my familys dentist when we 1st moved to Cedar City in 1985. He and my dad had much in common in their love of guns, fishing and hunting. They became kindred spirits. He was so very kind to both my parents (John and Saundra Zemanek) and helped my mom after my fathers unexpected passing, helping her sell and organize his guns. He even took trade to write off my dads dental bill to help my mother out, which was so very generous of him. He later became my employer and always treated me with respect and kindness. I personally saw how he fought for what he thought was right in City Council meetings, going to bat for an elderly widow, the under dog, and numerous other issues that affected his local community. He spent hours and hours preparing and volunteering to help the people he cared about, standing up for what he believed was right. He had a helpful heart and wanted to be of service. The Haight Family is my prayers for comfort during this difficult time. ❤

I first met Robbin at Boys State , the summer of 1969 in Logan. He was a giant of a man, a respected leader, and a great athlete. I had the joy of reconnecting in New Zealand where he was an outstanding missionary for the church.
I have grown to respect and appreciate the Gubler's over the past couple of years in St George, so this tragedy is close to many years, friends and feelings. My condolences and sympathy to Brenda , his loved ones, Robin's great qualities and service will always be valued and remembered fondly. God bless you all.

Brenda and Family
Pauline and I just learned of Robin's passing. Our hearts go out to each of you. What a wonderful and incredible husband and father. He blessed our lives in so many ways. Serving with him in the Young Single Adult (M-Men's) program gave me a chance to know his heart and talents. He truly has blessed many lives over the years. He will be greatly missed but I know for a surety that he is being embraced by a merciful and understanding God. Comfort will come as the atonement of Jesus Christ heals your heart and his. Our prayers go out to each of you. May you find peace in the Gospel and your covenants. All our love, Brent and Pauline Esplin

Robin was one of the kindest, most Christ- like people I have ever met. I enjoyed his happy heart and generous soul. What a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa he was. I can't wait to see you again my friend! You will be sorely missed.
