Victor Matheson Obituary

Victor Robertson Matheson

Cedar City - Victor Robertson Matheson passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2020 at the age of 96. He was born to David Albert Matheson and Anna Elizabeth Mickelson in Parowan, Utah on October 22, 1924.

He married his high school sweetheart Reva Robinson on March 15, 1946 in the St. George, Utah Temple, married 69 years.

Dad was a hard worker all his life. He started young going to the sheep herd with his older brothers. Oh, the stories he could tell. He served his country with the 1st Infantry Battalion in the Philippines. He was the youngest of 6 brothers who were all serving at the same time.

He worked many jobs providing for his family, some being a Butcher for OP Skaggs, Safeway and Park N Shop. He also worked with his brother Floyd at Matheson Wholesale Meats. He worked at the steam plant for UP & L, Columbia Iron Mine and Town and Country Motel, where he gained a long-lasting friendship with Curtis Crawford.

Dad loved the many deer hunting trips to Hogs Heaven with the Bulloch family, thank you for making him feel like he owned the place. Dad and mom spent many happy days camping on Cedar mountain and cutting firewood. Duck Creek reunions every July were the best of times and still continue today. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a temple worker with Reva in the St. George Temple.

He loved gardening the "Parowan Way" and taking care of his yard and home.

He is survived by his children Craig Matheson (Vicki) of Cedar City, UT; Kim Matheson (Margo) of Cedar City, UT; Gayle Webster (Sid) of Cedar City, UT; DeAnn Sherratt (Mike) of Cedar City, UT; Vance Matheson of Cedar City, UT: Vickie Webster of Cedar City, UT; Denise Stanfill (Ed) of Maricopa, AZ; 27 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and one on the way.

We know there is a wonderful celebration going on on the other side as Dad was the last of 12 children to make that journey. He is reunited with his sweetheart Reva, his parents and siblings Alma, Claude (Frosty), Albert (Ab), Jean, Scott (Skinner), Joe (Filey), Floyd, Beth, Mac, Earl and Nellie. daughter-in-law Paulette Matheson, great granddaughter Jessica Simkins, grandsons Bart Webster, Coby J. As a child I spent hundreds of hours in Uncle Vic and Aunt Reva's home. Their children, my cousins, were my life's very first BFF. I love Uncle Vic. His warmth and sense of humor ensured that I was always welcome and "part of the bunch." I remember him teasing me with that "squint" in his eye. I remember his giggle when he got the best of me. I remember he was always the first one out in the early morning dawn starting the campfire when we were camping at Duck Creek. I honestly do not recall a harsh word or any anger ever passing from his lips. I don't think there is another human being on earth about which I can say this! But most of all I thank Uncle Vic for the wonderful gift he and Reva gave to this world through the children they raised and sent forth. The evidence of greatness in a man is often reflected in the quality of his children. The Matheson bunch is a great herd thanks to Uncle Vic. Love you! Happy camping on the other side, Uncle Vic.

Vic was older than me, but part of a family thathad brothers all in the military at one time, which had a big impact on my Patriotic values today. In addition the family had a handicapped brother, whom taught everyone respect and love for him. His name was Earl. We all owe a great deal respect for the values the Dave Matheson Family gave to us.

The ultimate neighbor. Always willing to help. Always interested in updates of our family members. "Partners in Crime" with my father, John Mathews, when it came to fun practical jokes at the Iron Mines. A quick wit and always a joy to visit with. Someone for me and other neighbor kids to look up to. A great Kayenta Circle stalwart has moved on to the open arms of many family and friends.
My thoughts and prayers are with all members of the Matheson family.

So sorry to hear of Vics passing
He's a super person. I remember him well growing up in the Park N Shop days and later in life when he cut up a couple of deer for Mike and I, doing it quicker that we could do the wrapping and he also kept us entertained the whole time. What a guy
He will be missed by many
