Jewell Dean Carney Lawson, age 92, of the Mooresville Community of Washington County, passed away at 4:16 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at her home. A native of Washington County, she was born on Aug. 29, 1929, to the late John Francis and Nancy Ann Pile Carney. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, a 1948 graduate of Springfield High School and a homemaker. Preceding her in death was her husband, Norman Edward Lawson on June 24, 1995; four sisters, Elizabeth Rose Carney, Charlotte Janes, Margaret Hardin and Ella Mae Morris and five brothers, Leon, Garland, J.L., Charles and Donald Carney. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Balentine of Borden, IN; a son, Douglas Lawson (Brenda Heavin) of Coatesville, IN; two grandchildren, Denise Balentine-Womack (Michael) and Jonathan Balentine (Kay); two step great grandchildren; her twin sister, Uelline Jackson of Springfield and two brothers, Howard Carney (Reva) of Springfield and Billy Carney (Pat) of Bardstown. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Tobe Yankey, officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Carney, Garrett Jackson, Gary Lawson, Rick Lawson, Sherman Blankenship and Denny Lawson. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, Hosparus or the New Hope Cemetery Fund. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
