George W. Bennett

Muncie - George W. Bennett of Muncie, Indiana passed away at the age of 91 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 18, 2021. He was born in Hartford City, Indiana on June 29, 1929 to the late John A. Bennett and Edna (Clore) Bennett.

George married Wilma N. McCallister on December 11, 1954. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He was a hard-working and committed man with strong union ties, attending union meetings even after his retirement from Borg Warner in 1990 after 40 years of service as an Assembler. He attended Yorktown Nazarene Church and was a member of the American Legion, American Veterans, the Moose Lodge, and United Auto Workers Local 287.

George is survived by his son, Dennis Wayne Bennett of Tennessee; daughter, Karen Stewart (Tom) of Yorktown, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Bennett and Edna (Clore) Bennett; wife, Wilma N. (McCallister) Bennett; son, Larry Joe Bennett; daughter, Brenda Adkins; three sisters; and five brothers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Westminster Village and the 8th Floor North nurses and doctors at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for their care.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie with funeral services immediately following at 1:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, held with Military Honors. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
