Kenneth Heinen Obituary

Kenneth (Ken) Heinen

Muncie - Kenneth (Ken) Heinen, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away in Muncie, Indiana on April 13, 2021 following a short illness. Ken was a life-long photojournalist, with a professional career spanning over 30 years in the Washington, DC area, followed by 14 years teaching and mentoring students at Ball State University. In his free time, Ken was an avid model railroader, building several highly detailed, layouts.

Ken greatly loved and enjoyed his four grandchildren, traveling from Muncie to see them, capturing their vitality and beauty in many touching photographs.

Ken treasured his wife, Joann. Over the years, he would plan "Friday outings" to interesting destinations with her, visiting rustic and historic places throughout Indiana. This reminded Joann of their courtship days when Ken would take her to places on the Eastern shore of Maryland where he could share his wonderful opportunity of photographing the lives of the fisherman who lived on the island.

Ken is survived by his sons, David (Karla), grandchildren Justine and Bryce, and his son Eric (Kathy), grandchildren Sammy and Charlie and a special sister-in-law, Sandra Ondishko. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and June Heinen and his brother James Heinen and by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021 in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

The interment will be in Richmond, VA. At a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that contributions in Ken's name be made to St. Francis Newman Center or to a charity of your choice.
