Max Johns Obituary

Max Milton Johns, 84

MUNCIE - Max Milton Johns, 84, of Muncie, Indiana passed away suddenly Wednesday August 3, 2016 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 29, 1932 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Arthur Milton Johns and Beatrice Pauline (Brown).

In his younger years Max mowed grass with a push reel lawn mower for $.25 cents a lot. He worked for a short time at the Glass Cox Factory which manufactured soda machines in Muncie. He retired from Borg Warner after forty-three years of working in production, receiving and supervision. After retirement, he worked at the Highway 3 Hardware Store (south) for fifteen plus years, and he often said his co-workers were just like family members to him.

Max was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and role model to all of his family, and extended family. Max knew how to fix almost anything that was broken, and enjoyed doing so. He was always willing to help those in need. Max enjoyed tinkering in his garage, gardening, mowing grass, and watching the cooking shows on TV. He especially loved his gas powered mini garden cultivator, and his new Husqvarna zero turn lawn mower, and liked to demonstrate them to everybody that visited.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Shirlene (Roach Holt) Johns. Also surviving Max is his beloved daughter, Tracey Johns Fannin (Rodney). His precious grandchildren, Ashley Cole (Ricky Hall), and Katelyn Cole; great-grandchildren, JaVeon Cole-Westbrook, Jayleigh Cole-Westbrook, and Grayson Cole-Hall; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Johns Wallace Smith (Eugene); step-children, Kimberly Thompson (Paul Dowell), Glenda Osness (Doug), Angela Tom (Rick), Glen Holt Jr.; several step-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, PVT Jack J. Johns, CPL James Johns, PFC Morton E. Johns, and Joseph E. Johns. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Jo (Richardson) Johns mother to Tracey.

Funeral services will be 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 at Parson Mortuary with Reverend Vickie Perkins officiating.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Parson Mortuary.

Special thanks to Dr. Thomas Gibson, MD for his care, and the American Legion of Selma.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the great-grandchildren for their college funds.
