Michael Brown Obituary
Dr Michael P Brown, 60, passed away peacefully on 10 June 2021 surrounded by his family. Michael Brown valiantly fought carcinoid cancer for 3 years. After working at the university for 28 years Michael was proud to serve as the chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology until the time of his passing.
Born second of three sons 13 April 1961 in Monroe, Michigan to Conrad and JoAnn Brown, Michael graduated Monroe High School in 1979 before attending Valley City State College in Valley City, North Dakota. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from Western Michigan University.
After obtaining his Ph.D. he was hired for his first teaching position at Syracuse University in New York where he met his wife, Tracie Korrasik. They were joined in marriage on 26 August 1994. Michael and Tracie enjoyed 27 years of their lives together.
He is survived by his wife, Tracie; his mother, JoAnn Brown; six children, Christopher (Emily), Joshua (Stevie), Alexis (Joshua), Maria (Esteban), Rachel (Frank), and Matthew; eight grandchildren, including one on the way; two brothers, David Brown (Cathy) and Shawn Brown (Marcia); and four nephews and one niece. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Conrad, and his child Frankie.
Michael had a passion for teaching and helping others aiming to give a positive influence in the lives around him. He enjoyed reading, writing, the outdoors, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was deeply devoted to his catholic faith and was an active member of his parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, 15 June 2021 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 W Jackson St, Muncie with Fr. Coady Owens presiding. Burial will take place immediately following the Mass in Elm Ridge Cemetery, 4600 W Kilgore Ave, Muncie. The rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am before Mass.
Per Michael's wishes, in lieu of flowers please have Masses offered for the repose of his soul at your local parish or at St. Mary's in Muncie.

Dr. Brown taught my very first criminal justice course at Ball State University. I remember one day, he was having trouble focusing. He just stopped and said, "I'm sorry guys. I am getting married tomorrow and my head is just swimming." He gushed about his fiance and told us how excited he was. I don't remember if he even finished the lecture that day, but I definitely remember how sweet that was for a guy that didn't really show any vulnerability in class. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great instructor and I learned a lot from him.

Dr. Brown...what a great fella. My wife and I am so sorry for everyones loss. I enjoyed many of Dr. Browns criminal justice classes while at BSU. Thank you for everything Dr. Brown. Rest in peace and be pain free. Your in good hands now. Love and prayers!
