Audrey Howell Obituary

Audrey Yvonne Thomas Howell COLUMBIA - Miss Audrey entered into eternal rest on November 16, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the second daughter born unto Howard S. and Mary Ruth Padgett Thomas on March 5, 1935. As a young adult she relocated from Pacolet, South Carolina, to Columbia where she met and married the love of her life. They settled in the Lower Richland Community after having three children. Throughout her entire life she served as a public servant, first in banking institutions and then for a television station. Her final employment endeavor was serving as a Hospitality Hostess for Chick-fil-A on Garners Ferry Road. Along her path she fostered many friendships. She never believed in a handshake - it was always a hug with everyone she met. She was passionate about gardening and it did not matter to her whether it was the turnip patch or one of her rose beds. She had a knack of bringing all things to fruition. She shared her time and talents with her former church home, Lykesland Baptist Church, in various capacities which included serving on the official Greeting Committee, Secretary of the Adult Class, pianist and Treasurer. She was most recently a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer of the Bauknight Club. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Olin D. Howell. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Cantrell Sheu (Michael); son, Thomas D. Howell (Linda); and daughter, Audrey DeAnne Rease; grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Cantrell Waldrup (David), Amanda Renee Rease Sandifer (Jason), Jason Wayne Rease, Taylor Diane Rease; and great grandsons, Dylan Lester Waldrup, Drew Lance Waldrup, Landon Rease Sandifer and Cole Thomas Sandifer; her sister, Geraldine Thomas Baker Henderson; and her brother, Doyce J. Thomas (Betty). A celebration of her life will be held at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1005 Asbury Drive, Columbia, SC, on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com.

Miss Audrey always had a contagious smile. I first met her working at Chick-fil-A. It was a joy working with her. I would get a hug every time I would see her at work. She was always joyful and energetic and will be surely missed.

DeAnn, Sharon and Tommy, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Audrey was a dear friend since our Standard Federal, First Citizens and BB&T banking days. She was always positive and up beat about everything. She was always someone you could talk to about anything and always made you feel good after you spoke to her. She always had that BIG SMILE and always giving out hugs. I will truly miss her but I know she is in a good place and with Olin. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God Bless you.

Ms. Howell will be missed greatly. I still called her Ms. Howell because I have known her since I was a teenager and would have never called her by her first name back then. She was a wonderful, wonderful lady, always smiling, always ready to talk and a champion for her family at all times. She was a great friend to the Hughes family, young and old. She was a wonderful "neighbor", always ready to invite you in and she has shared many a tomato through the years with us. She will be greatly missed!!
