Carl Strange Obituary
October 18, 1942 - December 14, 2025
Columbia, South Carolina - Carl Edward (Ed) Strange, of Lexington, SC, passed away at his home at the age of 83. He was the son of the late Carl Bernard Strange and Maxine Elizabeth Vandever-Strange of Indiana. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1961 and entered the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he used his radio skills and technology training to begin his career at Southern Bell/Bell South/ AT&T. Upon retiring from AT&T, he worked briefly for KMC Telecom.
Ed was a patient and caring man who could fix anything you put before him from small electronics to motorcycles and cars. He restored various vintage trucks and cars over the years, passing on his mechanical talents to his son.
Surviving are his son, Christopher Tyler Strange (Cameron); grandchildren, Liam, Tyler, and Brooks Strange; stepdaughter, Michelle Williams (Chris); grandchildren, Joshua (Elizabeth) and Leila (Patrick); great-grandchildren, Emerson and Saylor Williams, Keegan and Ryder Humphries; brother, Jeffrey Randall Strange; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Carlene Sue Tucker, and brother, Larry E. Strange.
The family will receive friends January 10, 2026, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at Thompsons Funeral Home, Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF).

Ed was my constant companion when I was a kid. He brought me patches from his ship, the USS Little Rock, to put on my sailor suit. I n 1968 he helped me "drive" his 1939 Chevy farm truck around some open property. His sense of humor was keen and broke lots of ice over the years.

I Worked with Ed for many years at Bellsouth and KMC. We became friends. We had a lot in common. He was a great guy. I enjoyed his company, and will miss him greatly.
