Cora Skinnell Cody
January 11, 1923 - September 18, 2021
Augusta, Georgia - Augusta, Ga.—Cora Lee Skinnell Cody, 98, went home to be with the Lord September 18, dying peacefully at her Augusta home. She was born in Lynchburg, Va.
She was the oldest member of the Bicentennial Chapel, Fort Gordon. She loved her church and church family. Dressed in her Sunday best, she would always arrive early to talk with everyone who came in the door. It was the highlight of her week. For numerous years, she volunteered with the Flower Ministry at Fort Gordon making corsages with scripture verses and delivering them to patients at Eisenhower Medical Center. It was a pleasure for her to bring a smile to patients by giving them a flower lovingly made by the ladies of this ministry.
Her devotion to her family was unique. She adored her daughter, granddaughter, her son-in-law and the great grandchildren. Then she had the wonderful experience of being able to adore her two great great granddaughters. Every sibling, niece, nephew and cousin were important to her. Family and the Lord Jesus Christ were the center of her universe.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward Cody, her parents, David and Corrie Skinnell of Clover, S.C. and her siblings Delitha Barker, Emmett Skinnell, and Eugene Skinnell.
She is survived by her daughter Carol McAlister and son-in-law Bob McAlister of Columbia, S. C.; her granddaughter, Denise Pendarvis-Harrell (Mike); her great grandchildren, Brittany Cox (Josh), Taylor Stevens, Laken Blackwell, Chase Blackwell and Maddux Harrell; and two great great grandchildren, Emory Blythe Cox and Ella James Cox, all of whom live in Columbia.
She is also survived by her sister, June Bumgarner of Canton, Ohio, and brothers Paul Skinnell (Sandra) and Ashby Skinnell, both of Clover, S. C. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her two best friends, whom she loved like sisters, Cora Stephens and Jean Guldenschuh.
A special thank you to her devoted neighbor, Chuck Guldenschuh, her loving caregiver LaTasha Foreman, and Southeastern Hospice.
