Mr. Nelson was born in Jonesville, November 30, 1926, a son of the late Nathaniel and Marie Foster Nelson. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Robinson's Business College and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as the Jonesville postmaster. Mr. Nelson was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army, and had retired as a chief warrant officer after 20 years with the S.C. National Guard. He was a past post commander of the Jonesville American Legion,a chairman and past member of the Union Co. Election Commission, and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son: Dallas L. Nelson Jr. and wife, Donna, of Chapin; two daughters: Cathy N. Orr and husband, Kent, of Union, and Judy N. Weatherford of Winston Salem, N.C.; one grandson: Nelson Trent Weatherford and wife, Ashley, of Wake Forest, N.C., and a great-granddaughter, Holden Weatherford. Mr. Nelson was predeceased by a son-in-law, Billy Weatherford.
A gaveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Wade, Barry Moss, Keith Vanderford, Gilbert Smith and Darrell Addis.
Visitation will be held 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel.
Memorials may be made Jonesville Baptist Church, Lottie Moon Fund, P.O. Box 279, Jonesville, SC, 29353 or to a charity of one's choice.
The family is at the home, 315 Haile St., Jonesville, SC.

Dallas was one of the better memories of my youth in the Town of Jonesville and at Jonesville Baptist Church. His life blessed mine by his kind , thoughtful instruction and example. May God grant you blessed peace in his memory.
