After graduating from Kemper Military School in Booneville, MO, Mr. Howard received his BA from Furman University and his MA from Appalachian State University. He devoted many years of his life to the education of others, serving as a teacher, coach and principal. For 23 years he served as a counselor for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Walterboro. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Walterboro Civitan Club.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eunice Brown Howard. Also surviving are his son, Thomas I. Howard and his wife, Marsha, of Walterboro and his daughter, Beth Howard Jones, and her husband Billy of Gaffney, SC. Grandsons are Thomas and Robert Howard of Walterboro, and Reid Jones of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be at Bethel United Methodist Church Wednesday, July 16, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street, Walterboro, SC.
The family is appreciative of the caregivers, Agnes Allen, Ella Wright and Alvin Haynes, for their excellent care during the past several years.
