Donald Martin Obituary

SUMTER - Donald J. Martin, 81, widower of Eva M. Martin, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Born in George, Iowa, he was a son of the late Julius Emmett Martin and Mary Margaret Donahue Martin.

Mr. Martin was a retired U. S. Air Force veteran and was also a retired Civil Service employee at Shaw Air Force Base.

Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Martin of Amsterdam, Netherlands and Alyson Martin of Columbia; cousins, Catherine Veenker Kutka, Ralph Veenker, Jr., Martin Veenker, Rita Veenker Stockman, Mary Jo Veenker Haarsma, Linda Veenker, Judy Veenker, and Dorothy Veenker Staas; and a special cat, “George.”

Memorial Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Ted and Barbara Gose, 16 Warren Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, % of the Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin Street, Sumter, SC 29150, or to the SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
