Columbia, South Carolina - Doris W. Christley, 91, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away at White Oak Manor of Columbia, SC. She was the only child of Earl and Rose Woodmency. Doris was a devout Catholic who loved reading, English history, opera, and Chicago Cubs baseball. She taught catechism classes at St. Peter's Basilica, retired from her position as a correspondence supervisor for the US Army Military Personnel Division at Fort Jackson, and earned BS and MS degrees from the University of South Carolina.
Doris was preceded in her death by her son Phillip Jerome Christley and her husband Howard Joseph Christley, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Karen Hanner (Tim) and Jeryl Jones (Robert); her son Joseph E. Christley; her granddaughter Melanie Todd; her nephew David Slater; and her nieces Karla Rawicz LaRive, Michelle Rawicz, Daniela Rawicz and Kristina Rawicz.
A Funeral Liturgy Mass will be held at St. Peter's Basilica in Columbia, and a Funeral and Rite of Committal will be held at the Divine Mercy Funeral Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Service dates and times will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations in Doris' memory be made to St. Peter's Basilica, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and any animal humane society or shelter of one's choice.
