Born March 18, 1962, in Sumter, he was the son of Edward Guy “Slick” and Kay McFaddin Gibbons. He was a businessman, owner of Ed Gibbons Enterprise and Action Auto and Boat Sales, worked in the family business (Clarendon Auto Parts), and was owner of Ed Gibbons Racing. Ed had been racing for over thirty years, and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Manning; parents of Manning; two sons, Edward Guy “Gib” Gibbons III of Orlando, FL, and Kerry Lynn Gibbons of Manning; a sister, Gina Wilson and her husband Joe of Manning; nieces and nephews, Celia, Olivia, Macey and Joe Wilson, Corey, Chase and Summer Corbett, and Thomas Stoia.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009, in Clarendon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Debra Quilling Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Mickey Plowden, Shawn Whittle, Billy Cagle, Paul Newman, Robbie Lane, Curt Lee, Dee Haddock, and Mike Thomas.
Memorials may be made to the Free Will Baptist Home For Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, SC 29162, and to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memorials, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
