Edward Frederick Mixon
May 17, 1942 - November 4, 2025
Hampton, South Carolina - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Frederick "Freddie" Mixon, a cherished husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, beloved brother and loyal friend, who departed this life on November 4, 2025 at the age of 83.
Born at home on May 17, 1942 in Camp Branch, SC, Freddie lived a life marked by integrity, hard work and a vision for making his community a better place to live. A graduate of Wade Hampton High School in 1960, Freddie went on to study Biology at Newberry College. Freddie began his working career manufacturing flush doors and left to run Long and Mixon Farms with his father-in-law. Using his knowledge of chemicals, Freddie began to see a need in his community for pest control services and proudly founded Bug Busters, Incorporated in December 1986. Along with Bug Busters, he continued running the farm until 1994, when he turned his attention solely to Bug Busters. Freddie retired from Bug Busters in January 2020, after proudly serving his community for 34 years.
Freddie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Director, Deacon, and choir member. He was also a Gideon who served as the church coordinator for the Hampton branch.
Freddie was truly devoted to his family. He shared his life with Cathy, his partner and best friend for 60 years. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, unconditional support and a love for travel. Many of the most comical memories came from some of the vacations shared with his wife and girls.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy, daughters, Nicole (Jeff) Holland, Nina (David) Vaughan, and Natalie (Jesse) Moon, brother, Larry (Beverly) Mixson, nephew, Wayne (Shelly) Mixson, 5 grandchildren, Taylor, Josh (Ana), Zach, Hunter, and Alex, and faithful furry friend Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, E. D. "Junior" and Mary Mixson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Sand Hill Baptist Church, where family and friends with gather to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sand Hill Baptist Church or Sand Hill Cemetery a reflection of Freddie's generous spirit.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love he gave so freely and the memories that will forever remain. Freddie's life was a gift to us all, and his presence will be deeply missed.
