Elizabeth "Libby" Milling James SUMTER - Elizabeth "Libby" Milling James, 86, widow of Charles Burgess "Foots" James, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at McElveen Manor following an extended illness. Born December 11, 1926, in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late William Roy Milling and the late Elizabeth Harvley Milling. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended the University of South Carolina where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She married Charles B. James on October 11, 1947, and they were together for nearly 60 years until his death in 2007. Her life was spent as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She was the epitome of the Southern Lady. Mrs. James was a very active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Martha Newton Circle, the WMU, and Sunday School. She was also active in the community, was a member of the Sumter Chapter of the DAR, the Tuesday Club, and was a sustaining member of the Junior Welfare League. She was honored as being the founder of the "Pink Ladies," the volunteer mail delivery service at Tuomey Hospital, where she served as a volunteer and director for over 40 years. Survivors include three children, Charles B. "Scooter" James, Jr. (Janet) of Sumter, Roy Milling James (Kim) of Mt. Pleasant, and Elizabeth "Betsy" James Reynolds (Phillip) of Hickory, NC; 10 grandchildren, Charles B. "Tripp" James, III (Becky), Jacqueline J. Galloway (Clint), Jennifer James Barrineau (Brian), Leslie J. Strunk (Kyle), Jonathan Roy James, William Devant James, Phillip Jason Reynolds (Anne), James Emerson Reynolds (Kelsey), John Condy Reynolds and Mary Elizabeth Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Sara Rebecca James, Wells Kemper James, Charles Burgess James, IV, Clinton Brogdon Galloway, Jr., Charles Milling Galloway, James Kemper Galloway, Mary Jacquelyn Galloway, Brady Scott Barrineau, Sarah Blythe Barrineau, Ava Grace Strunk, Caden Coleman Strunk, Allison McCall Reynolds, Eliza Lawton Reynolds, Emma James Reynolds, Charles Carr Reynolds, Julia Mae Reynolds and Luke Emerson Reynolds; a dear cousin, Martha Harvley Dunlap and family; and a dear friend, Judy Truett. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Phillip Reynolds (son-in-law) and the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles B. "Tripp" James, III, Phillip Jason Reynolds, James Emerson Reynolds, John Condy Reynolds, Jonathan Roy James and William Devant James. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B.
