Liz was born in Millette, SC, a daughter of the late Duncan Clinch and Janie Boatwright Smith, Sr. After the death of her mother, she was raised in Allendale by her stepmother, Addie Mae Best Smith.
In 1950, she graduated from the Columbia Hospital Richland County School of Nursing. After graduating, she returned to Allendale and worked as a registered nurse for 36 years, serving as Nursing director at the Allendale County Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, in Swallow Savannah Cemetery with the Rev. Ronald Brewer officiating.
Liz is survived by her husband, John F. Massey, Sr., two sons, John F. Massey (Patty), Jr. and William Duncan (Susan) Massey, one sister, Katherine S. (Bill) Lancaster of Allendale. She had five grandchildren, Betsy Massey, Clinch Massey, Gatlin Massey, Rhett Massey and Hunter Massey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, D.C. Smith, Jr. and L.P. Smith.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2008, at Keith Smith Funeral Service, 128 Water Street, Allendale, SC.
