Gayle Merritt Scott McLean COLUMBIA - Gayle Merritt Scott McLean, 78, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Columbia to Thomas Roy Scott and Rebecca Ruth Merritt Scott. She attended Eau Claire High School and in 1958, married Thomas Hardwick McLean. Gayle dedicated her life to her family and her religious and civic convictions. She was actively involved in Women's Aglow, Bible Study groups and the South Carolina Republican Party. Gayle loved music, playing the piano, and singing. She was an avid traveler, and accompanied by friends and family members, visited many interesting places around the world. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas McLean; daughters Sharon G. McLean, Robin R. McLean, Melanie M. Macintyre (Brooke) and son T. Scott McLean (Angel). Grandchildren Ethan Macintyre, Merritt Macintyre, Marshall McLean, Lauren McLean and Kirsten McLean. She is also survived by her siblings Geraldine Scott Averill and Stephen Berry Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Thomas Roy Scott, Jr. and Ada Ruth Scott Young. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, cousins and many loving friends. A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Christian Life Assembly, Brown Chapel: 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC.
