George Dial Jr.
COLUMBIA - A memorial service for George Louis Dial Jr. will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends fol-lowing the service in First Presbyte-rian's Jackson Hall. There will be a private interment in the First Pres-byterian Churchyard. Dunbar Fu-neral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Dial died Saturday, Septem-ber 26, 2009. Born March 15, 1929, in Columbia, he was the son of George Louis Dial and Caroline Banks Dial. He served two years in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1971. Mr. Dial at-tended the University of South Carolina School of Law and gradu-ated in 1955. He went on to become a member of the Richland County and American Bar Associations, South Carolina Bar, South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Associa-tion, American Judicative Society and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
While at the University of South Carolina, Mr. Dial was a member of the USC Golf Team and Omicron Delta Kappa, as well as a member and past president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Mr. Dial was a member and past president of For-est Lake Club and the Columbia Cotillion Club. He was a lifetime member of Sertoma International and a former member of the Qua-drille Club and Tarantella Club. Mr. Dial was a member of First Presby-terian Church in Columbia.
He is survived by his wife, Eliza-beth "Betty" Thain Dial; daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Dial Jenkins and Joseph Michael Jenkins; son-in-law, Samuel Brent Caldwell; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Dial Jenkins Baker and her husband, Rockwell Allen Baker, and Caroline Inglesby Caldwell. He was predeceased by his eldest daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Dial Caldwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian, 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Betty,
I heard today that George passed away and was so sadden by the news. He was a man of great honesty and honor. He always talked so lovingly about his Betty.

I will miss and always remember him for his integrity, compassion, and the love he had for his family.
