Born June 19, 1933, he was the son of Samuel and Josephine Albert Mattox of Blythewood. Mr. Mattox died February 21, 2009. He retired after working at Columbia Housing Authority for 28 years.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Alice; son, George S. “Sam” Mattox, Jr.; daughter, Patricia “Patty” M. McMurphy; sister, Doris Laffey; brothers, A. Thomas Mattox of Newland, NC; Furman D. Mattox of Blythewood; Laverne Mattox of Peake; Kenneth Mattox of Blythewood; grandchildren, Mindy Hutto of Columbia; Allison Tempest of Gloucestershire, England; and Dustin G. Seeger of Columbia. Mr. Mattox was predeceased by sister, Ruby Nelson; brothers, Jimmy, Gene, Ronny and Jerry Mattox; and beloved daughter-in-law, Mary. The family would like to thank Palmetto Hospice for their care.
