Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
Mr. Barfield was born in Kershaw County, SC, a son of the late Burrell and Loula Norris Barfield. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a prosthetist and orthotist, and was the owner of Pee Dee Brace & Limb for 40 years until his retirement in 1994. He was active in children's rehabilitation services, where they fondly called him 'Mr. B.'
Mr. Barfield served on the Board of the S.C. Society of Prosthetists and Orthotists, and on the Advisory Board of Camden Military Academy.
He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gladden Barfield of Florence; two daughters, Suzanne (Steve) McCall of Effingham, and Jennifer (Charles) DeMaggio of Florence; a son, Jimmy Barfield of Garden City, SC; a sister, Burlyn Barnes of Wilson, NC; four grandchildren, Webb (Megan) McCall, Matthew McCall, Helaina Barfield and Michael DeMaggio; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Camden Military Academy, 520 Hwy 1 North, Camden, SC 29020.
